报告摘要:

Like the classic conforming finite element methods, the weak Galerkin (WG) finite element methods are general methods for solving partial differential equations arising in science and engineering. The WG method is a natural extension of the classic Galerkin finite element method for the function with discontinuity. Therefore, the weak Galerkin methods have the flexibility of employing discontinuous elements and, at the same time, share the simplicity of conforming finite element formulations. The purpose of this presentation is to introduce basis concept of the weak Galerkin methods, their recent developments and relations with other finite element method such as DG and HDG method.

报告人简介:

Prof. Ye obtained her Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh. She was a lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the University of Pittsburgh from 1989-1990,and a postdoc fellow in the Department of Material Science Engineering from May 1991 to Aug 1991. After that, she joined the University of Arkansas at Little Rock as an assistant professor. She was promoted to associate professor in 1996 and full professor in 1999. She has published more than 100 papers with around 3000 citations. She was the co-inventor of the weak Galerkin method, which was widely regarded as the most important finite element method ever designed.
